Indiana University - SPD Smartglass

Indiana University recently had Innovative Glass Corp’s SPD-Smartglass windows installed in their Health Information and Translational Sciences Building, making this the largest installation in the world with this technology.

This project consisted of 59 interior panels, located in classrooms, lecture halls and the Legacy boardroom, as well as nine large exterior panels.

The E Glass™ panels were mounted in hollow frame extrusions to visually and audibly isolate the conference room from the outer lobby.

SPD Smartglass has ability to instantly darken from 50% down to 1% light transmission for video conferences and presentations and can also regulate the amount of heat coming into the building while blocking 99% of harmful UV rays as well.

CN Tower - Elevator Floors

The CN Tower, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is the tallest free standing structure in the Americas and the 2nd tallest building in the world. It stands at 1,815 feet tall.

Their 6 elevators, which travel at a speed of 20 feet per second, were recently upgraded to include two of Innovative Glass Corp’s LC Privacy Glass panels in their floors.

Our LC Privacy glass is programmed to remain in its “private” state while the elevators are not in motion at the top and bottom destinations of the tower.

The E Glass™ panels instantly switch to their “clear” state during the ascent and decent of the elevator ride, giving patrons the ability to see down the 1,136 ft elevator shaft while in motion.

Last Licks Ice Cream - Bathroom

Steiner Sports’ Last Licks, located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is a Sports themed Ice Cream Parlor. Their bathroom wall is covered with a Baseball themed mosaic which would be hidden if they used a regular wall to separate the restroom.

LC Privacy Glass was the perfect solution to Last Licks’ problem.

When the bathroom is vacant, the glass is clear, allowing the mural to be seen by the entire store. When occupied, the bathroom wall becomes opaque to create a private environment for use.

Kitchen Windows

The client wanted to have clean, maintenance-free window coverings in their new kitchen to give them privacy at will, and still allow the light to come in.

For added flexibility, the LC Privacy Glass can be selectively controlled within the same window, allowing the user to enjoy full view, glare control, modesty mode and full privacy on demand.

This lets you keep the bottom portion of your windows opaque to maintain privacy, while still allowing sunlight to pass into the room. Alternatively, you can have the top portion of your windows opaque to block out sun glare while preserving the view below.

Corporate Executive Conference Room

The client wanted to shield their Executive Conference Rooms from hallway traffic and distractions when being used and be able to obtain instant privacy when confidential meetings were in progress.

In this application, Innovative Glass Corp provided tempered LC Privacy Glass panels that were butt-glazed and mounted in partitions and doors designed by Faram, an Italian Partition Company.

When unpowered, the view is completely obscured, creating privacy for meetings and multi-media presentations. Although private, the diffused light from the exterior is still able to pass through to the common areas.

The laminated E Glass™ provides superb sound attenuation, and serves as a rear projection screen and whiteboard as well.

Summer Home - All Glass
The client wanted lots of glass for this contemporary beach home, but didn't want the hassle and look of mechanical blinds or curtains to obtain privacy and UV control.

Innovative Glass designed an E Glass™ solution using LC Privacy Glass, glazed in the clients' chosen Semco windows from Heritage Millworks.

The laminated & insulated glass units were sent to the frame distributor for factory glazing, then installed just like all the other windows in the home.

The 99% UV-reducing windows are normally clear, but when the client wants privacy, they simply push a wall-mounted button, and all the windows turn frosted white.

When in the private mode, if a guest arrives at the door, the client is able to push the "door" button, and just the sidelights surrounding the door turn clear for 5 seconds for viewing, then automatically turn private.

All the glass automatically turns private at dusk should they be in the rear of the house or in their absence at sunset.

Innovative Glass also provided a sophisticated selective control system to simulate Venetian blinds. By using a Decora style slide dimmer, the client could "raise and lower" the virtual blinds, effectively removing the sunglare and heat gain from the upper windows, and still viewing out of the lower windows.

Lastly, the client was given a remote control that they could give to the local law enforcement officials for monitoring their vacant home during the winter. A patrol car can simply pull up in front of the home, and instantly "clear" the windows for internal inspection, without alarm codes, keys, or entering!

ABC's TV Extreme Makeover - Home Edition - NYC Apartment

Innovative Glass was chosen to design and build an E Glass™ solution for ABC's high profile NYC Firefighters' apartment project. The goal was to provide light control and sound containment in the newly constructed bedroom.

Innovative Glass built five 3 ft x 4 ft wide laminated SPD Smartglass panels to go into the bedroom walls. When the switch was activated, including a remote control, the panels turned a dark blue tint, preventing 99 % of the light from passing over to the adjacent room. The client was also able to dial in any light transmission level in-between with a dimmer.

The laminated panels provided the acoustical benefit.

This project was produced from start to finish in 1 week to conform with the demanding live schedule of the TV producers.

The Insula-dome skylight was glazed with an insulated, variable tint SPD Smartglass™, that cuts the light, heat and sunglare entering the space.

The Skylight has 3 types of controls - a manual control, a remote and an intelligent SmartSensor, that automatically darkens the glass when the sun is directly above. When the sun is obscured by clouds, or at night, the glass automatically reverts back to clear.
